You pay a price for everything
Last night peer pressure got the best of me. I was coerced into going out last night, on a school night, to go to the karaoke bar and engage in alcohol fueled shenanigans. While I didn’t want to spend any money while I was out I did want to spend time with other people in my class because its turns out they’re not all that bad. It takes me a while to mesh with other people and it appears that just as I’m about to leave I start to integrate with the group. Oh well, no matter, I’ll probably never see any of them in the future.
So, off to the bar we went after doing some pregame at the room of another individual in my class. Upon arrival we found that we were the only people in the entire place so we started signing eachother up for songs. Thats right, we didn’t get to pick our songs but they were chosen for us. I was extremely nervous but I got up there and sang “Peaches” by Presidents of the United States of America. Luckily for me, I knew the tune and the lyrics were on screen so it went fairly well.As the night went, and my alcohol consumption increased, I gained confidence in my abilities. Unfortunately, I was already beginning to loose my voice my that point in the evening. So, I sang one of my favorite songs “You Give Love a Bad Name” by Bon Jovi. Luckily for me, I’m able to sing that song to a relatively decent level. Some of the notes are on the top end of my range so I tried to push through them as best as I could.
I got up later in the evening and sang my favorite lounge lizard classic, “Danke Shoen”. I did my best crooner impersonation but my voice was pretty much screwed by that point in time. It didn’t help that I was laughing my ass off for the large majority of the evening because well, it was an absolute blast. I tend a few songs with the group and drunken classics like “Low Places”. I do my best and worst country voice whenever I sing through that one because making fun of it brings me much joy.
I left the bar before the others did because I was done drinking and just plain tired. I had been mixing my drinks with redbull all evening in an attempt to stay awake but there is only so much sugar and caffiene in the world and after a while your body is done for the day.
This morning somebody played a recording of “Low Places” from their cell phone. I think their phone was malfunctioning because in my memory we didn’t sound like a bunch of tone deaf drunk idiots. Then again, my memory could have been distorted by a particular substance.
I did wish Jessica was there with me even though she said that she would never go to a Karaoke bar… I do miss her
