Airman Jerknuts
I got this in my email today and it is one of the damn funniest things I’ve ever seen. This kid is is going to get in some serious trouble. You may not want to zoom see these full size… just saying.
Below is what I received in my email
Priceless!!! These are by far the funniest pictures I have seen of anyone marshalling a jet or helicopter!
A few days ago somebody found a pic of a KC-135 guy marshaling a jet in his underwear. The next day Airman Jerknuts of our grand 34th AMU decided to out do the tanker guy. I think our guy won!
The chief lost his mind over this. He read 11 people their rights and they all lawyered up. The chief confiscated a bunch of cameras (not before the pics got put on laptops of course) The kid asked everyone if they minded, including the aircrew and super, no one cared. There’s a huge cluster-gaggle with it. Apparently every lawyer in the AOR plus a few extras have to be flown in for this.

Changes to the plan
I’ve been trying to get out of my current career field for a few years now and the chance is upon me. I’m going to let the best chance to retrain pass because I think I’ve found a better plan. If I was to retrain I would undoubtedly move away from here within the next year – no doubt about it. If I didn’t retrain I could use my job reservation and reenlist whenever I chose to do so. I have a guaranteed job for the next four to six years if I take the oath once again. Odds are, unless I place Korea on my list of bases I won’t leave here for a few years. Some people have been at this base for eight years – I’ve never heard of anyone being stuck at a base for eight years
Since I’ll be hanging around I can do a few things -
1. I can stay here with Jessica until she finishes school – she promised me she’ll be done my spring quarter
2. I can continue to work the second job and continue to pay off my debt
3. I can start taking classes again – if I’m not moving there is no better time like the present
4. I can still go snowboarding in the winter – if I were to move I might get stuck far away from them thar hills
5. I can continue to hang around a very important girl
6. The docs can continue to evaluate why I have a hard time running and hopefully solve the problemAfter she completes her school, I can still apply to retrain but it might be a different career field and it will probably be under a different retraining program – its slightly harder to retrain in this manner but I might be able to do it. The other option is that if I finish my degree and she’s got hers done I could separate early from the military and become… a civilian again. I love the military but that doesn’t mean I can’t move on with my life. The military provides a great sense of security and in some ways I may be afraid to take that risk.
So… here’s the risk… and I hope it all goes well

What do you know… they still aren’t taking care of them
Another report talking about the lack of care for troops when they return. We’ve gotten much better at taking care of missing limbs but we have been unable to take care of those with mental problems. Its a sad state and I wish it could be better. Read more at the Washington Post

What a weekend
If only I could keep it up -
So, on Thursday night I spent the evening wearing a polo shirt that was provided to me as I stood directly next to the stage at a Faith Hill and Tim McGraw concert. For the evening I was a member of the security team. My only job was to be a visible presence, answer questions, and remove any fan that attempted to jump up on the stage. I only answered one question and nobody attempted to jump on the stage so it was a relatively boring evening. I’m not a fan of country music – save for Johnny Cash – so I almost fell asleep a few times. Jessica was with me and was watching from a different part of the floor. She was rather jealous of me and wished that I could have been sweat on by either one of them – I don’t quite get it. She had fun but it was an extremely long evening. If only it was music that I actually liked – Stevie Wonder would have been awesome.
Friday was another night of fun as we went to watch the Tacoma Rainiers play in a triple AAA game. I’m not a huge fan of watching baseball but when you go to the park there is a lot of other stuff to watch if you have little interest in the game. They also have two of my favorite food groups: brats and beer. I haven’t had a good brat in a while – you know, brat, bun, sour kraut, catsup ( or ketchup) – all the things that make it good. We were staying for the fireworks that were at the end of the game and I guess it was a good choice. The game was all tied up through the 9th inning and we gave up 5 runs in the top of the 10th. Three of them were from an unforced error… doh! Since the Rainiers hang out at the bottom of the standings I didn’t think they had a chance in hell of coming back from that one but a miracle happened and scored 6 runs. I was extremely tired by that point so I really didn’t care but it was one heck of an ending. There were fireworks after the game but I almost fell asleep. If I’m tired I’m willing to sleep almost anywhere.
Saturday – last night – I went to Katie’s house – she is one of Jessica’s friends. We imbibed large quantities of behavior influencing liquid. Needless to say…. I was inebriated. Good times were had by all.

The girl is making me pancakes right now – she could be a keeper. If only all of my time off of work was this enjoyable.

Passion
I love people that exude passion. I love that they care about someone or something so much that they will fight for it. These people will go home at the end of the day and loose sleep over an argument. They think about new ways of doing things just because they believe they can make a difference. They stand defiant in the face of adversity and will take on any foe.
Of course, people with passion can have a detrimental impact on your day if they are your boss. They may have the same goals as you might but they want to go about it in a completely different way. They may see things differently from you and think that the only way a process can work is in its current incarnation. They believe their work is the epitome of excellence and that it cannot improve or that it shouldn’t improve.
People with passion tend to clash… often. But, I’m glad to know we’re all working for the same thing. We’re all living for the same thing. We all want to make a difference and make things work better… or just plain work.

Time off
I’ve got a little time off in my schedule… well, at least its a little here and a little there and that should hopefully cut down on the stress. Its not that I’m under a huge time crunch or I’m so busy with one project that I can’t even think its that I am busy with a large variety of things. I can handle it as I always have and this is a great opportunity to push through the crap and get on with it. So, a short list
1. pig bbq
2. tech order program
3. rewarehousing
4. retraining
5. my troop
6. flare program
7. tdy guys
8. self inspection
9. remote lan access
10. targetthe list could go on for a while but its just a bunch of things…
well, best get started

Just Bitchin’
Once in a while things are just bitchin’ Nothing can go wrong and your day goes by without problem. Other times your day progresses poorly and you end up just bitchin’ about everything. Today things are going poorly. Poor would be an rose colored view of how things progressed.
Yeah… bad things man, bad things.

The Pig Roast
Many years ago I was involved to some extent in a pig roast. I am not sure what parts of the story are lore or fact but here are the details I can recall. Back in the autumn on ’00 I was a young college student that knew little about the world around me and about life in general. I was still green behind the ears but was full of energy… not a whole lot of ambition but I had alot of energy. Iowa State Delta Chi had a great tradition of pig roasts during homecoming and I happened to be involved in the whole ordeal. We discussed what we were going to do a few weeks before and we decided that we would buy a whole live pig in order to save a few dollars. A few of us grew up on farms and we assumed that someone would know how to properly (and humanely) kill and dress a live pig. Unfortunately, the person that knew how to do that wasn’t around when the pig arrived. We did some extremely inhumane things to that poor animal before we eventually beat it to death. We couldn’t figure out the proper way to kill it so at one point we were beating it to death with a claw hammer. I, unfortunately, wasn’t around when this transpired. Mike’s brother came over and helped one of the guys from the house dress and clean the pig. Not knowing what to do with the unusable bits, they threw them in a 50 gallon trash can. We did have an insatiable hate for the baseball players so we eventually found a use for the really smelly bits. They cut the pig into chunks, threw it inside the rotisserie, wrapped it all in chicken wire so the good bits didn’t fall out and let it go overnight. The next day we all ate pig until we were physically ill. We had a leftover pig head so we threw it on top of the guts and left the whole thing on the pitchers mound to… give the place a nice odor. Sure, we left it in the trash can and didn’t empty it out as some had suggested. It could have been considered a hate crime if we had a Muslim baseball player involved. After a few days of laughing about it, someone had an attack of consciousness and we took the remains to a place far far away… I think it was a ditch in the country.
So, with that memory in the background I’ve been tasked with cooking hog for an upcoming squadron bbq. As you can tell from the story, I don’t remember that much about the whole process. I think I’m going to do much the same thing… aside from killing and dressing a pig to save a few shekels. I’m just going to get a whole bunch of pig… because we’re looking at feeding roughly 400 people…. so I’ve got to figure out exactly how much uncooked pig we’ve got to acquire.
Needless to say, if you have any advice or bbq related anecdotes feel free to leave me a comment.

Procrastination
I’ve been procrastinating lately. I’ve been doing well at my regular job as I’ve been trying to learn as much as possible but I’ve been slacking in almost all other areas. I’m not sure if the lazy days of summer has hit me and all I want to do is to just soak up the warm weather and be a turd or if I’m just having a spell of laziness. Some of the stuff I’ll have to do later on but it seems like every task can be pushed back until later. It appears that there is nothing so pressing I can’t make it wait.
In fact, I’m writing this post rather than taking care of some of the stuff in my apartment. The internet is a tool for procrastination.
