  • Night-shift Ninja

Date: 2008.06.30 | Category: Life as we know it | Response: 0

For the next few months I’m going to be the designated person that is going to work nightshift. I’m the only one working but I think I’ll be able to keep myself motivated and on task (well, aside from a random blog post here or there). I’ve got an important test coming up in a few weeks and this should give me ample time to study. There are few other distractions on this shift so I should be able to get quite a bit accomplished. No one will actually see what I am doing but they’ll see the finished work. I will act like a ninja for the next couple of months. My stealth and cunning will see me through my work. It should be fun -

Jessica (obviously) does not like this arrangement as I will not be at home with her all of the time. Luckily, I will be awake when she is awake but we will be sleeping at different times. They did have me slated to work swingshift (3pm-11pm) which would have led to great frustration – she would have only been able to see me during the week if she stayed up late. I was able to swap with someone else so this isn’t that bad of a deal. I’ll be on this shift until I take leave in September. After that, I have no idea where I’m going to end up.

The weekends are going to be strange as I’ll want to sleep from 8AM-2PM – we’ll see how it plays out

So, I have a little less than a month until I am done with school. In this month I need to Finish a business math class, Word class, Excel class, Molecular Biology and Tissue culture. This is a whole lot of stuff to do but it’s the only things keeping me from me and my degree. Gosh, I can’t wait to be done.

  • Can you smell it? It’s the weekend

I’m mere hours away from a respite away from work and away from responsibility. I don’t mind work, in fact, I actually like what I do but I really enjoy my time away from the office. Weekends and leave fantastic because they are generally unstructured. We always have something happening but there is so much free time I don’t know how someone wouldn’t like it. Leanne’s birthday is this weekend – I think she is turning the big three-o so we’re going to spend some time in the “Roy” area on Saturday and we’ve got a little cleaning to do but aside from that it’s all free time. I can smell the weekend and it puts a smile on my face.

  • Some people are insane!

Date: 2008.06.16 | Category: ahh the news, rants | Response: 2

I received this article earlier today and I’ve got to say that I think that the author is absolutely insane!
I am still amazed that closed minded people still exist – this probably comes from the same people that think that minorities are the cause of ALL of our economic and social woes. Read below for the biggest piece of crap I’ve read in the past six months. Jessica read it and is freaking out because she “Barracks the vote” I’m sure Ann Coulter’s satanic tail is twitching as she digs into this one believing that we are going to fall into a jihad in America if Obama won the general election. The reality is that she and other like her are bat-shit insane for believing this kind of crap.

Rich Carrol – I hope you don’t have children – in fact, I hope that you have a freak accident that removes your ability to breed because you are a fool.

I searched for responses to this crap and found a few gems

Man your rants got me real shook! World will end if Obama is elected! Muslims will steal my daughter and wife!! US will be forced to not drink!! UN will rule our parking lots! And other crazy crap that you know doubt have thought of too!!! Wow! Facts to back up your paranoid rant would be a real plus!! Good luck during the coming apocalyptic jihad!!! Salaam Alekum!

The only saving grace of this article is that it will only be taken seriously by those who believe that Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly are serious political commentators.

Conspiracy theory is not political commentary.

The Jihad Candidate – by Rich Carroll

Conspiracy theories make for interesting novels when the storyline is not so absurd that it can grasp our attention. ‘The Manchurian Candidate’ and ‘Seven Days in May’ are examples of plausible chains of events that captures the reader’s imagination at best-seller level. ‘What if’ has always been the solid grist of fiction. Get yourself something cool to drink, find a relaxing position, but before you continue, visualize the television photos of two jet airliners smashing into the Twin Towers in lower Manhattan and remind yourself this cowardly act of Muslim terror was planned for eight years.

  • Graduations, Weddings, and Stress OH MY!

Date: 2008.06.16 | Category: I was too lazy to organize these | Response: 0

These past few weeks have been pretty stressful for me. I have had this looming stress of my pending graduation. And it 1.5 hours it was over. I still have one month of school left, but it’s not much. I am pretty much just waiting for my mouse cells to grow.

My best friend got married the very next day after graduation. It was held at the Lodge at Mt. Rainer and it was amazingly beautiful, and so was she. It still amazes me that we are that grown up already. Marriage? Really? Are we old enough for those shenanigans? Well, she is and I couldn’t be more proud of her or happy for them. They have an unusual yet bomb proof relationship and I can’t wait to see them this happy in 50 years.

So, when I let things get to me and get me stressed out, like a wedding and graduation in the same weekend, I get really emotional. John and I were watching T.V. and we saw this commercial for the WA State Lottery, and it brought me to tears. John looked at me like I was crazy, but I think it’s really cute. I will let you judge it for yourself and let me know what you think!

  • Photos from the weekend

Date: 2008.06.15 | Category: Life as we know it, photos | Response: 0

I mentioned that we were going to be busy as heck this weekend and I was lucky enough to have enough time to upload a few photos. I’m not in either photo – mainly because I feel that even though I look fantastic I am extremely unphotogenic. Jessica is looking fantastic in each of the photos below – the first is at her graduation with Rachel and the second is at Jenny’s wedding (as if you couldn’t figure it out from the attire).

Jessica had something to say about it and you can read it at her blog

  • We’re gonna be busy as hell

Date: 2008.06.13 | Category: Life as we know it | Response: 1

This is going to be a taxing weekend. I get out of work early to eat dinner with Jessica’s family (who recently joked that I might as well call them in-laws – you can draw whatever conclusion you wish from that remark) prior to her graduation ceremony from Bates (technical school) where she is working on a Biotechnology associates degree. She gets to walk today but she still has about 6 weeks left of school. She should be done with the biology portion in the next week or two but she has a few other classes to finish up the degree. I’ve been quite unhappy with the way she describes how the program is ran. I often feel that they are just jerking the students around and delaying classes and projects so they can eek out more tuition. She hasn’t been paying the tuition but her parents have – and I’m sure they hope it reaps large dividends.

Directly – and I mean directly – after her graduation she’s off to the edge of Ranier National park for Jenny’s (her best friend) wedding. She’ll play the role of bridesmaid for the event. She’ll miss the rehearsal but she’s had some experience in the role so I’m sure she’ll be fine winging it. I’ll leave Saturday afternoon to head to the ceremony. I’ll have to leave afterwards as I am on standby on this three day weekend. Why a three day weekend? My base (home of the 62AW) has recently gone 62 days without a DUI and Monday has been declared a “down” day. It’s not really a down day because they’ve scheduled work for the flight line and I have a part to deliver so that it can get done. So, its not a three day weekend for everyone.

Sunday will probably spent at her parents house for fathers day. They’ve (her parents) tried to coerce her into preparing dinner – she’s thinking about ribs – and I’m thinking that it sounds like an excellent idea.

The next two weekends are surprisingly empty of plans but after that we’ve got the 4th, then two weeks of nothing, and then a camping trip to somewhere near a massive salty body of water. Its going to be a busy summer and this weekend is going to be one of the busiest.

  • This could really hurt him

Date: 2008.06.10 | Category: Life as we know it | Response: 0

What happens tonight could really hurt him, but I have a feeling that it won’t hurt that bad. One of our mutual friends, Matt, is celebrating his 21st birthday party. I talked to my boss and I am going to take half of the day off tomorrow (the first half) so that I can attend the shenanigans. He may feel awful tomorrow but its not going to kill him – it’s an initiation rite that many of us have been through and almost all have survived without any long lasting injury. I don’t expect him to last long but I’ll be sure to take pictures of what happens – whether he wants me to or not.

  • Trade

Date: 2008.06.08 | Category: Life as we know it | Response: 0

We traded dogs – yet again. We thought that Violet was going to be happy out here but it turns out that she only thrives when living in the pack. We packed the two dogs in the car the other day and took them down to her parents house while we were at Kayla’s birthday party (Jessica’s niece). The closer we got to her parents house the more we could see the change in Violets behavior. By the time we got to the house the dog was as happy as we had seen her in weeks. At our house she simply hid out in the kennel and wouldn’t come out – I guess she was so used to the kennel with the rest of the pack that when she was given the opportunity to roam alone in our yard she freaked out. We ended up with Lick (Licorice) – he’s a little bit bigger than Duke and he knows how to play fetch. He looks like he is going to be a pretty good fit. We haven’t brought the dogs in the house for any amount of time but we will when Jessica finally puts the rest of the stuff in the living room in its place. There are times when I think that she is stalling so that I’ll take care of it. (she denies this vehemently) She knows that it drives me crazy when stuff is out in the open – I think she is plotting my demise. She isn’t on my life insurance policy yet so I don’t know why she is trying to get such a big head start.
