John + Jessica = Kingsquared
This blog is by us and for us but how did we get here?
He Said:
After moving to Tacoma from England I was in a little bit of a cash crunch and I had plenty of free time on my hands. I applied at a couple places looking for a part time job. Target, the company best known for its Target Circles (inside joke sorta), decided that they would offer me a job in loss prevention. I was going to be a security guard.
The job was a joke. It was probably the most boring joke I have ever been told in my entire life. I was told to spend hours standing in front of the door greeting people. I was to be a presence that would scare away the nefarious elements in life and reassure people that yes, it was safe to shop at your local Target store.
I’m a shy guy so it took me a while to get to know the people around the store. I had a clue as to who most everyone was but I could rarely put a name with a face. One evening while I was working one of the cashiers told me that Jessica thought I was cute. I blushed. I knew that the worst that could happen is that I would talk to her and that she would find that she didn’t like me – it took me a little time to get to that point. For the next few weeks while working at the front of the store I would look over at the registers to see her staring at me when she wasn’t busy with customers – she would almost always blush if I caught her. A week or so later I got called over to help “secure” a spill. She was there and she was tongue tied the entire time I was there talking to her. I thought it was cute.
By this point I had worked out the gumption to ask her out – but – how should I do it. I was still a bit apprehensive about asking a girl out so I pulled the stalker approach and left her a comment on her Myspace account. She replied back without knowing who it was – we went back and forth a few times before she realized that it was me. She felt a little sheepish from there. Working up my courage we moved to the instant messenger and then to the telephone where I finally asked her out to dinner.
We hit it off immediately and I have been hooked on her since.
Cut to two years later. We had been living together for about 8 months and we had talked about getting married but we hadn’t done anything more than talk. I knew that she was the girl for me and had known for some time but I didn’t know when to do it. I finally decided to find a ring and propose.
I made reservations for one of her favorite restaurants and told her to wear something nice. She knew something was up because why would I take here there out of the blue. We left the house early for our reservation – too early in fact – so we had some time to kill before we got there. This was according to my plan but it was a bit obvious. We walked down to the pier and while she was looking out at the city across the sound I got down on one knee and popped the question. She liked the ring. She said yes.
I decided to retire my old blog and create a new one that we could both share. Yes, we know that the math doesn’t add up but we really don’t care. It’s a play on words.
King Squared
If you're a math guru you'll wonder how we got King squared out of John+Jessica. She doesn't even have my last name yet (July 17, 2010) and the only way to get a square would be to multiply JxJ. Well, we don't care. We simply like the name. Enjoy our blog.
