In the past I was non-descriptive and would often call things stuff – well, apparently there is a store out there where you can buy tons of stuff. Stuff that you could use everyday and stuff that would sit unused until once a year. There is stuff that is high priced and stuff that can be had for less than a dollar. You could probably find stuff that you might want to give as a gift and other things that you would want to keep for yourself.
Where could you find all of this stuff? At Stuff Mart!

If you didn’t find this amusing I know one person that will

Students from Prairie View A&M have grown tired of legislation that makes it hard for them to vote. So, as anyone should, they’ve protested their situation in a creative way.
The county government decided to offer a poll at only one location in Waller Co. Texas. As a result, the student body marched en mass to the polling place – 7 miles away. Their plan is to tie up the two voting machines for the open to close in protest of the lack of polling places. Read the article – cool stuff – way to go students!

I woke yesterday and found not blue skies as I was used to but something much more sinister and disgusting. It was like the whole world was in a sepia filter and it had a strange color wash – we were in a brown world. The sky was being choked out by the dust in the air and I could stare directly at the sun at 4PM without it hurting my eyes – well, I could have stared at it if I could have found it. I took a few photos of the day and put them all together – notice how everything blends?

(you can click on the image for the high quality version)
The sky blends into the dirt, into the concrete, into my boots, into the buildings. The item that was the least brown was my shirt which is supposedly “sand” colored. Sand isn’t a color, brown is – you’re authorized to call things light brown and dark brown but there is no sand. If the color isn’t one of the 16 in the crayon box it doesn’t exist – its only a variation of a real color. Somebody had fun making up stupid names.
Its now the next day and I am still coughing and wheezing because lungs don’t react well to dust in that concentration. Why the hell would anyone want to live in Iraq when its such a brown place? The ground has got to be green where I live and the sky needs to be blue.

I’ve had extra time to scour the internet for interesting articles – here’s what I’ve found in the last few days
A college educated man experimented to see if he could rise from the ashes with only $25 in his pocket. His goal: to get a job, a car, an apartment, and put some money in the bank before the end of the year without using any of his connections. He succeeded – read his story
America may never become energy dependent unless we make a drastic change in the way we educate our young and the way we value everything in our society – read on
The author believes that we are accepting ignorance and that we are systematically dumbing ourselves down because – its just too hard. Its a fascinating read and ties into a book I am reading about globalization.
Stanford conducted a study on voting patterns based upon how people associate with a candidate – based upon the candidates appearance vs. their own. Great stuff – a summary is available here and you can read the full text at Stanford.edu
We’ve been fighting the war on terror since 2001 and we have still not captured or killed our number one target. Many believe that he is hiding in the mountains nearing the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. We have tried to make strikes in Pakistan in the past but have faced stiff opposition when seeking approval – this time we didn’t ask for permission and we found that there were no complaints made in the end. Hmmm… who would have thought – read on at MSNBC.
CNN fired a producer, Chez Pazienza, for writing on a personal blog – he was not writing about his life experiences while never mentioning his employer. Its a fascinating read about corporate politics – read on

Sorry about the unreadable page – I made a mistake. Hopefully it should work as designed – if it doesn’t, please let me know.

An Iranian film maker created his version of the life of Jesus from the Islamic point of view. His greatness as a man is never in dispute in this movie but some of the details are different. Its a compelling read even if its only an interview with the film maker.

I made the changes to the code so now it should appear in a new light. I’ve got to download the latest and greatest version (with some more bug fixes) when I get a chance so it should only get better. Let me know what you think.
Oh – got a few pictures of the night shift crew – well most of us

I’m currently modifying some code and images for a new theme for the website. Gone should be the dark background and light text and it should be replaced with something slightly more readable. I thought I had it correct but apparently I missed some code so its not going to go live yet – if you’ve been surfing in the last 20 minutes I’m sure you’ve seen some strange things.
When its available, let me know if you like it. I should have it live within the next 24 hours.
- I’ve had a little spare time on my hands.
You won’t see much of a content change, its just going to be the same crap in a shiny new wrapper.

I’ve been hobbling around like a cripple for a week due to an ankle sprain. Its nothing major but we walk everywhere here and it just takes a little bit away from your day. You can have a great day but if it hurts to go everywhere how great was it?
I go to the gym constantly here – its good for my health and it gives me something to do for 60-90 minutes a day. The ankle problem isn’t helping my cause – I’ve been unable to do any cardio for a week. Needless to say, I just wish the damn thing would heal up. I’ve been told to go to physical therapy but they have “banker hours”. I work night shift and I refuse to wake up in the middle of my night to go get checked out. Yes, I know that nobody will suffer but me but it’s not that big of a deal.
It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago that I was virtually indestructible. Now I work on rehabbing my shoulder every day (I injured it two years ago), now I worry about re-injuring my ankles and getting fractures again, now I worry about re-aggravating my sprained ankle. Oh well – I guess this is supposed to happen with age. Damn you age!
Work has been slow as of late – work makes the time go by quickly – without work the days are beginning to drag. We stay busy by killing people – sure, its not the flashiest or the most humane type of work but it keeps food on the table. When we aren’t killing people – it tends to get boring. I wish they could just go do some random goat or camel target practice – sure, its bomb they drop costs upwards of $20k but it would be good for my morale and well being.

The military has a zero tolerance policy to discrimination based on sex, religion, race, or creed. The civilian world has no such policy.
We live in a world where we see should no longer be looking at the race of an individual – we should view each person on their merits. Lines dividing us based upon sex, religion, race, and creed should blur more with each passing day. Unfortunately, there are some out there that try to separate and segregate us based upon these categories.
The United States has an African American man and a Caucasian female running for office. There are some out there that use racist and derogatory terms to identify these people. I have to wonder why they do it. I know that these two individuals, as all others, are equal to me in every way. They share the same blood as I do and they live and die as I do. They are no more superior to me than I to them. We all stand on the same playing field as humans – some of us rise higher than the rest but it has nothing to do with our backgrounds. Everything should be based upon our merits.
I have a few family members that make racist comments – they think that its an acceptable practice. I think they are ignorant fools. I have a few friends that think that an African American should never run for office of president because he is a “insert racial epithet here.” I think they are ignorant fools.
What kind of individual judges people based upon their skin? Should I treat the ignorant as my equals? Should any of us? I would rather hold an individual of a different race that hates me based upon my merits higher than a friend that likes me but hates others based upon their race.
Some people need to grow up – we are living in a world where lines of race are blending with each passing day. Areas that used to be dominated by one race are seeing many cultures prosper. Should we shun these newcomers? – absolutely not. We should embrace them and all they have to offer. We should meld their culture into ours and learn about their history. These people are our long lost cousins. They are family to us – we’ve just been apart for generations.
Racism should stop – unfortunately, as long as the ignorant live we may never see the end of it.
