Grown Boys
You’ve heard women say it before “Why in the world would I want to take care of your kid when I’ve got two of my own and a husband to take care of.” Yes, men are grown boys and maybe it’s our nature of always trying to push boundaries that makes us feel young. Some are adrenaline junkies and there are others like me that love to come up with smarmy one liners. If I could afford it I would trade my one liners in a heartbeat to be an adrenaline junky but I don’t think I could meld the two together. I caught an interesting story about a SR-71 pilots trip across the country where he had the opportunity to be both. The story is unattributed for some reason – it’s still classified, it’s un-true, it’s… – but, I like the story. I can only hope that I can continue to be a grown boy – and not drive Jessica crazy in the process.

Even Supreme Court Justices get bored
I caught this link to a decision from Chief Justice John Roberts that was written in noir style.
Officer Sean Devlin, Narcotics Strike Force, was working the morning shift. Undercover surveillance. The neighborhood? Tough as a three dollar steak. Devlin knew. Five years on the beat, nine months with the Strike Force. He’d made fifteen, twenty drug busts in the neighborhood.
“Devlin spotted him: a lone man on the corner. Another approached. Quick exchange of words. Cash handed over; small objects handed back. Each man then quickly on his own way. Devlin knew the guy wasn’t buying bus tokens. He radioed a description and Officer Stein picked up the buyer. Sure enough: three bags of crack in the guy’s pocket. Head downtown and book him. Just another day at the office.
You can read the rest of the details at The BLT I have never seen anything like this, then again, I don’t think I’ve spent any time reading supreme court decisions. I’m glad the guy has a sense of humor.

Pests
Earlier this summer I had an encounter with a swarm (albeit a small swarm) of yellow jackets that were angry because I was in their territory. I responded to the threat with a large amount of caution and a yellow jacket trap that I placed in my front yard. Over the next month or so the contraption filled itself with the remnants of the swarm. I never discovered the source of the swarm but I think I dwindled their numbers to a point that they could no longer be effective in defending their perceived territory. Dan, a random guy on a random blog that I don’t know nor have I ever talked to in the past, has an amusing story about a beehive that gave him considerably more trouble than I had. Here’s an excerpt
Unsure of how many bees I killed or if I had managed to make their hive uninhabitable by emptying an entire can of Raid onto the mouth of their hidden lair, I waited another week to investigate. Cunningly, I got a long push broom and swiped at the top stair once again. A handful of bees flew out, and the next thing I knew I was in my basement shivering.
Bees: 4 Dan: 0
If you’ve got the time feel free to check out the story at his blog. The story was well written – and as normal for his blog – quite funny.

If only this was a drinking game
McCain probably won’t win the election unless something drastic happens in the next 20 days or if we experience the pain of the Bradley effect. If he should win and later die because he is…. old…. we could see Palin as President. Yes, it is frightening.
Check out this website. Every time she says maverick you’ve got to take a drink.

Financial meltdowns of the past
The current financial meltdown isn’t the largest nor the first of its kind. We’ve had our fair share and we’ll probably have them in the future. Neatorama has a great list of them that includes highlights like
The Panic of 1907
Wall Street crash of 1929
Great Depression
1973 Oil Crisis
Black Monday
Savings and Loan Crisis
Long Term Capital Bailout
Dot-com Bubble
California Energy CrisisIf you’ve got ten minutes its high time to bone up on boneheaded things we’ve done to the economy. Do you think we’ll learn from our mistakes this time? nah

Need last minute votes? Just add FEAR!!
Maybe it’s because this is the first time I will legally be able to exercise my responsibility as an American citizen or maybe it’s because I want to see this county take a turn for the better. For whatever reason it is, it’s given me a little bit more passion about this presidential election. The more I read, the more I hear the angrier I get.
I do not understand how Sarah Palin got onto this ballot. I do not know why John McCain would kill his chance at the presidency by choosing an ignorant, small time Governor who thinks she can do no wrong. My problem with the whole republican party right now that they are now using FEAR to gain votes.
During the debate last week Palin used the word FEAR about 4 times in one response. What do you think that does? You start thinking maybe I should be scared. Maybe things are far more scary than I thought. Let’s reinforce that you should be scared of the BLACK DEMOCRAT who MIGHT JUST BE A MUSLIM SLEEPER CELL. BE AFRAID HE’S DIFFERENT!!!! BE AFRAID!!!!!!!
Then, today I read a CNN article on the newest development. Obama is now paling around with Terrorists. Yup, that’s what she told the people who joined her for a fund raising even in Colorado.
CNN reports:
The Statement: Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin said Saturday, October 4, that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is “someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.”
CNN did a fact checker and guess what, Palin is a IDIOT!
Verdict: False. There is no indication that Ayers and Obama are now “palling around,” or that they have had an ongoing relationship in the past three years. Also, there is nothing to suggest that Ayers is now involved in terrorist activity or that other Obama associates are.
You can read the FULL STORY HERE on CNN.com
I guess the thing that makes me so angry about these statements is that people WILL believe them. They will not accept something different out of FEAR. It just blows my mind.
